Who wins the argument?

I’ve often heard the argument that the current NSAA point system for basketball isn’t fair because it rewards teams for playing down a class.

What the people making that argument say is that teams should be given bonus points for playing up a class – say a Class C1 school playing a Class B team and be penalized for playing down a class – say a Class C2 school playing a Class D1 team.

Currently, bonus points are given for playing up a class, but teams aren’t penalized for playing down.

The bus rides back to Wayne from Duluth, Minnesota were probably the best examples of the few downsides of running track at Wayne State—at the time, the southern-most school in the NSIC, which meant lots of time in a bus. 50 or 60 college kids, one bus, seven hours, the drive didn’t start until 8 or 9 p.m., and the end of the ride meant feeling the effects of running a 10K and then sitting on a bus for seven hours. The bus had televisions, which was nice—but the volume was always set to that you-didn’t-want-to-sleep,-did-you? level of screaming. Yes, actually, sleep would be really nice.
