BelAir has continued their Good Neighbor efforts to help those in need. Students of BelAir Elementary spent time making blankets again this year. On December 22, we presented these fleece blankets to agencies in the Norfolk area. We also presented a blanket to Chris Dekker. Chris is a previous BelAir student that survived a fight with the H1N1 virus.
Second grade read the story- “The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree”. It is a story of an Appalachian family during World War 1 and how they overcame hardships to celebrate a wonderful Christmas together. In this story, the daughter asks for a doll, but having no money, the mother chooses to make her doll from a silk stocking and her wedding dress. As a culminating activity, students made sock dolls.
BelAir Elementary students pledged to be “drug free”. Football goal hung in gym held all of their pledges. ”Drug Free” skits were presented by Norfolk’s JOOI Improv.
