Reading

Monday, February 20th, 2017

Reciprocal Reading Groups collaborate! The students are in small groups and each is assigned a duty. There is a predictor, clarifier, questioner, summarizer, and recorder. As they read a chapter or selection, the students apply the strategies they are learning.  Duties are rotated. Students state that they learn from each other and  it is fun.

Cursive Licences

Monday, February 20th, 2017

Third grade students are filling out their applications for their cursive licenses.  They must complete the cursive practice workbook first. Once the book is completed, the applications are filled out. If the student’s application is approved, they receive the cursive license.  They are expected to maintain neatness and proper penmanship. If the students is caught speeding through an assignment or have messy writing, they will be issued a speeding ticket. If the messiness continues, they could lose their license. This idea was borrowed from Mrs. Groninger at Woodland Park School.

Mystery Science

Monday, February 20th, 2017

Mystery Science has been a hit! Students love the hands on activities. They look forward to the on line information, which is highly engaging. The activity that follows motivates the students to learn about their world.  In this lesson, the students made a sun dial and learned how the first clock was used.
