Deaf Awareness Week

Sunday, October 1st, 2017

This past week students at Bel Air were visited by Ricky Smith, a mime and actor, as part of Deaf Awareness Week. Throughout his presentation Smith used only visual directions to engage the students. Children had to pay close attention in order to follow directions and join in on the fun. IMG_0235 IMG_0238 IMG_0249 IMG_0232 IMG_0230

Reading

Monday, February 20th, 2017

Reciprocal Reading Groups collaborate! The students are in small groups and each is assigned a duty. There is a predictor, clarifier, questioner, summarizer, and recorder. As they read a chapter or selection, the students apply the strategies they are learning.  Duties are rotated. Students state that they learn from each other and  it is fun.

Cursive Licences

Monday, February 20th, 2017

Third grade students are filling out their applications for their cursive licenses.  They must complete the cursive practice workbook first. Once the book is completed, the applications are filled out. If the student’s application is approved, they receive the cursive license.  They are expected to maintain neatness and proper penmanship. If the students is caught speeding through an assignment or have messy writing, they will be issued a speeding ticket. If the messiness continues, they could lose their license. This idea was borrowed from Mrs. Groninger at Woodland Park School.
