A Westside Third Grader won a ride to school on a Norfolk fire truck for submitting the winning home fire escape plan .  The contest was sponsored by the Norfolk Fire Division.

Second graders at Westside recently got to meet one of their role models through a Skype visit set up by their classroom teacher. Mrs. Smith’s second grade class was recently selected as one of the top five Adventure to Fitness schools in Nebraska.

Adventure to Fitness is a media company focused on children’s health and education. Through interactive adventures, students engage in moderate to vigorous exercise while they learn about math, science, geography, social studies, language arts and health.

In recognition of their class’s level of involvement, the show’s host, Mr. Marc, visited via Skype on Thursday, May 16th. The students were able to ask Mr. Marc questions and give him ideas for future episodes. They thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet and talk with him.

Mrs. Nicole Smith was named a national champion in education and fitness during the 2011-12 year by Adventure to Fitness.

Northeast Community College  invited Westside Kindergartners to join in on some Arbor Day fun.

This week is geography week at Westside.  Students are going to learn all about different countries around the world.  Each class chose a country and decorated their door with interesting facts and art from that country.  It is fun for all to learn about places around the world.
