By Devin Denker

On April 17, 2013, 30 businesses from around the Norfolk area came to the Norfolk Jr. High. They talked about what their businesses do.

This was the first ever career expo held at the Jr. High. Students got to visit 8 different businesses, at 12 minutes each session, the expo lasted from 12:00-2:00 P.M. Some businesses handed out small goods like pens and pencils, while others handed out larger items like t-shirts and pizza Cutters.

My favorite business was Nucor. They talked about the process their product goes through. I think it was the most interesting business present.

As you can see, the Career Expo was a great time. It was a good opportunity to check out the local businesses. This Career Expo was made possible by the Norfolk Area Chamber of Commerce, and the staff at the Norfolk Jr. High.

February was proclaimed as “JOOI of Reading Month” in Nebraska and Norfolk by Governor Dave Heineman and Mayor Sue Fuchtman. Jr. Optimists from Norfolk Jr. High shared the “JOOI of Reading” with our friends in the Head Start program on Thursday, February 21st. Jr. High members also read to K-2 students at Washington Elementary earlier in the month. In total, Norfolk JOOI members (MS, JH & SH) read to well over 500 children during February!

Banner for Sandy Hook School

Friday, December 21st, 2012

Norfolk Junior High School students took a few moments out of their last day before winter break to sign their names and encouraging messages to Sandy Hook Elementary School students and community members. Students stood in line to make sure their “Thinking of You” messages were put on the banner and they were excited to send thoughts of hope and blessings to those impacted by the tragedy. The banner will be sent (and hopefully arrive in time for the holidays) to give the Sandy Hook students and community members extra support from Norfolk Junior High School.
