Junior High Celebrates Reading Awareness Month

Tuesday, March 7th, 2017

March is National Reading Awareness Month. In order to create awareness, Student Council decided to celebrate. March 2nd was Read Across America Day…and also Dr. Seuss’ birthday. The Student Council members thought it would be fun to have a pajama day and spend their English class periods free reading. Our English teachers fully supported the idea. There was also a PRIDE trivia contest over Dr. Seuss facts and books. Prizes were awarded to the top to finishers in each PRIDE class.

The Student Council members also wanted to reach out to our LIFE kids. So, they dressed up like The Cat in the Hat and took photos with some of the LIFE kids during lunch.

Mrs. Berryman’s “Pet Project”

Thursday, December 1st, 2016

Last year Mrs. Berryman’s students learned about being responsible by talking about how to take care of animals. So this semester they did a service learning project using the skills they learned. Every Friday for an hour, they go the Northeast Nebraska Animal Shelter. They walk the dogs, play with the cats, fold towels, clean bathrooms, take out trash, and clean cages. Students and animals both benefit from these Friday afternoon trips! What a great way to learn and have fun!

Junior High HAL Class Is Busy!

Wednesday, November 30th, 2016

Mrs. Gentrup’s 6th period HAL class is busy this semester with different creation projects.  One of the student’s favorites is making a Stop Motion Video.  Students developed a storyline, gathered their props, and started filming step by step to create a two minute video.  The process is time consuming, but the students did an excellent job with being precise and learning about patience.  Their videos are: A Murder Mystery, A Color Switch Game, Adventures of a Stick Man, Dreamland and Survival Island.  Great job students!
